Creative Catalyst 2020

Earlier this year, we launched Creative Catalyst, our newest programme partnered with TalentLab to help young emerging BAME creatives who want to break out into film, storytelling, VR and cross-media platforms. It was a highly successful endeavour with great feedback from our partners and our participants are now empowered and inspired to tell their stories. B3 Media also won the Made in Lambeth Award earlier this year for this programme!

The Programme

Partnering with ELEVATE, B3 Media brought together 14 participants who had a range of creative interests including film, performance art, music and digital creations. Over the course of a few weeks, B3 Media took them through workshops and opportunities to help transform their creative practice.

Workshops and talks ranged from poetry to public speaking to using VR equipment. They were all ran by our TalentLab alumni who are now industry professionals. They returned to share their journey and present themselves as examples to our cohort, showing how they were once in the same position and what paths they could explore after a B3 Media programme. Participants were highly engaged and enjoyed the challenges, particularly with being encouraged to think in new ways.

Our young creatives received personal mentoring sessions from industry professionals to ask questions and receive personalised advice. They also gained access to sessions at the Tate Modern and the BFI, including the Future Film Festival, in order to network and develop their creative interests.

In the last part of the programme, the group formed smaller teams to work collaborative and independently produce immersive 360 VR short films based and set in Lambeth. The teams developed fantastic ideas, incorporating poetry, creative writing and film to create short projects that were displayed at the final showcase.

The Showcase

In March, Creative Catalyst participants presented their films and their process behind them at a showcase to an industry panel.

Guests were able to engage with their creations and experience their VR short films. B3 Media were proud to celebrate our cohort and see how much they’d progressed over a short span of time.

B3 Media will continue to support our young creatives on the rest of their journeys and look forward to seeing what they’ll go on to do. In the meantime, Creative Catalyst will return next year to support more young artists!
