Elevating Creativity: Highlights from the B3 Origin Lab and TalentLab XR
Welcome!
Get ready for some serious inspiration! We’ve had a whirlwind of activity here at B3 Media this summer, and we’re excited to share some highlights from our recent adventures with you.
B3 Origin 2023 - Supercharging Creative Practices
We wrapped up the B3 Origin 2023 development week on July 14, after a full-on week of inspiration, teamwork, and creativity. It was fantastic seeing ten standout artists, with backgrounds ranging from: podcasting, film, theatre, and photography and more, take their creative practices to the next level.
Meet the exceptional talent selected for our B3 Origin programme:
Johny Pitts - Writer/ Photographer/ Presenter
Maria Marrone - Filmmaker / Photographer
Mishaal Memon - Filmmaker / Writer/ Director
Shernay La Touche - Filmmaker
Olu Adaeze - Actor / Writer/ Director
B3 ORIGIN 2023 - PARTICIPANTS
Anisa Butt - Actress/ Writer
Gary Riley - Art Director/ Graphic Designer
Kesi Steven - Author/ Creative
Jay Oliver Yip - Multi-Disciplinary Creative
Joe Leigh - Fight Sports Reporter/ Filmmaker
The participants experienced an action-packed week with lead mentor Nelson George (Writer/ Director/ Producer), and Marc Boothe (Founder B3 Media, Creative Director), who shared story development techniques, provided tools for re-thinking creative projects, group pitches, and much more.
Here’s what our cohorts had to say:
“Taking part in the development week with B3 was like being handed the keys to the game - so much industry insider knowledge condensed into such a short period of time!” - Johny (B3 Origin 2023)
“In what was an intense but incredibly fun and informative week, I emerged energised and confident in mapping out the next steps of my creative career.” – Jay (B3 Origin 2023)
The life of a creative can be a bit lonely, and isolating. I have been seeking a community, leaders/mentors who I can go to for guidance, and a sense of reassurance that I am on the right path. At B3 Origin I have found that.” –Kesi (B3 Origin 2023)
“The week has been, wow! Ground-breaking. Holistic. Inspiring. Life changing. Illuminating. And there's so many more words, I probably don’t have enough access to right now. Because I'm still processing just how amazing it’s been” – Olu (B3 Origin 2023)
“There were so many gems dropped on us! They shared numerous techniques that filmmakers can use, many of which I wasn’t aware of before.” – Joe (B3 Origin 2023)
“What I’ve taken away from this week is that even though I’m aspiring to do work that is meaningful for me, I also have a lot of value with the work I want to make. I’ve also learned a lot about the power that I hold when I walk into spaces. And when I look to collaborate with other people.” - Maria (B3 Origin 2023)
Now, the participants are turning their newfound knowledge into action, developing their projects and road-testing their ideas, all while receiving additional support from B3. Following their final project pitches in August, we extend our best wishes for their journey to the next stage with their projects.

B3 Media launched TalentLab XR during the lockdown with the goal of providing more opportunities for diverse and underrepresented voices to develop artistic projects in Extended Reality (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality). The talented individuals in the TalentLab XR cohort, both from the past and present (2022/3), represent the new generation of storytellers. They are pushing boundaries and experimenting with XR to create immersive experiences that challenge and connect with audiences in this exciting and rapidly evolving medium.
Since then, several participants have advanced their careers in the immersive industry. From our first cohort, Emile Dubois has become a Studio Manager and Junior Producer, and RCL Graham is now an Unreal Engine developer. Lara Kobeissi is part of the creative team for the successful Storytrails immersive project. Marcus
Joseph secured Arts Council project funding for his ‘Jazz Maze VR’ project, which will premiere at the Sage Gates Music Festival in October. Similarly, Jeremiah Brown recently received an Arts Council England development award for his ‘Funeral Initiative’ project, which merges spoken word, visual art, and augmented reality. We are looking forward to seeing what the TalentLab XR cohort will achieve as their projects progress, and we wish them every success in the future.
Finally, a special shout out to the mentors’ whose help and support have also played a key role in our journey. Also, a special thank you to Epic Games, Move AI and Magic Beans, whose support helped make our TalentLab XR showcase a success.
Thank you!
